Linear Integration

Connect Index with Linear for seamless product management

Linear Integration

Index's Linear integration enables powerful planning and discovery capabilities for Product Management, creating a seamless connection between your product planning in Index and execution in Linear.

Key Features

Two-Way Project Sync

When you create a project in Index, you can push it to Linear with a single click. This creates a corresponding Linear project and establishes a two-way sync between them. Any changes to project details, status, or timeline in either tool will automatically update in the other.

View Linear Issues in Index

See all the Linear issues associated with your Index projects without leaving the app. This gives you a complete view of your product work, from high-level planning to detailed execution.

Status and Timeline Synchronization

Project status and timeline changes are automatically synchronized between Index and Linear, ensuring everyone has access to the most up-to-date information regardless of which tool they're using.

Unified Planning and Execution

Develop ideas in Index using flexible views like Canvas, Table, or Roadmap, then push them to Linear when they're ready for engineering execution. This creates a seamless workflow from ideation to delivery.

Use Cases

Product Discovery and Planning

Use Index's flexible Canvas view to brainstorm and develop new product ideas. When an idea is ready for implementation, push it to Linear with a single click to create a project for your engineering team.

Roadmap Management

Create and manage your product roadmap in Index, with projects automatically synced to Linear. This ensures your engineering teams always have visibility into the product roadmap and upcoming work.

Status Reporting

With automatic status synchronization, you can generate reports and dashboards in Index that include real-time engineering progress from Linear, providing a complete view of your product development lifecycle.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Product managers can work in Index while engineering teams work in Linear, with changes automatically synchronized between both tools. This enables each team to use the tool that best fits their workflow while maintaining a single source of truth.

Best Practices

Start in Index for New Ideas

For new product initiatives, start in Index where you can use flexible views like Canvas to brainstorm and develop your ideas before they're ready for engineering execution.

Use Linear for Engineering Execution

Once your projects are well-defined and ready for implementation, use Linear for detailed engineering execution, issue tracking, and sprint management.

Create a Consistent Project Structure

Develop a consistent naming convention and project structure that works well across both tools to make navigation and reporting easier.

Regular Review of Synced Projects

Periodically review your synced projects to ensure they're still relevant and accurately reflect your current product priorities.

Troubleshooting

Sync Issues

If you encounter synchronization issues:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Linear
  2. Click Test Connection to verify the integration is working
  3. If issues persist, click Reconnect to reestablish the connection

Missing Projects or Issues

If projects or issues aren't appearing as expected:
